We stayed at the Grand National Hotel, which was conveniently located in Russell Square, between The British Museum and The British Library. Naturally the first thing we had to go see was the museum!
The front of the museum: Overview and Frieze Detail
The Great Court:
| The Dome | Roman statue | Easter Island statue | |
| Asian guardian statue | Assyrian guardian statue | Lion statue | |
| Me w/ the Lion | Big Egyptian head 1 | Big Egyptian head 2 | Egyptian obelisk |
We also wandered slightly out of the Great Court to see the entrance murals
for the Americas exhibit
We managed to squeeze in a delicious lunch at an Ale & Pie house near the Museum.
Rather than try and find all the highlights ourselves, we then opted to go on a London Walks tour of the Museum. Rather than go step by step along the tour, I'll just show pictures by section:
| Asia | Assyria | Celtic and Saxon | Egypt and Sudan | Greece |
After a long day traipsing about the museum, we went off to the Covent Garden area for some fish and chips. We found them at the Rock and Soul Plaice [sp], the third-oldest chip shop in London. Then we started what was to be our usual London evening routine: JP off to a club while I settled into the hotel's pub for a few pints.
